Subject: Help shape the future of AI for Australian small businesses

Hi <docDownload user>,

You've shown interest in docDownload in the past, so I'm reaching out with an opportunity to help shape our next chapter—and possibly the future of AI for Australian small businesses.

A supporter's crowdfunding success

Recently, Peter Hall—a long-time docDownload supporter—launched a crowdfunding campaign for SIGRIST, a small Australian manufacturing business. You can see the campaign here:

This got us thinking: Could docDownload benefit from a similar model?

Our mission: then and now

Twenty-three years ago, we founded docDownload to democratise documents. Back then, writing professional documents required expensive expertise. Small businesses were often left behind.

Today, the challenge has shifted. AI offers incredible potential—but it also raises new questions for small business owners like you.

AI and docDownload: the challenges ahead

AI has transformed how we work. But for small businesses, it also creates uncertainty:

  • How can we ensure AI helps small businesses compete—not fall further behind?
  • How do we maintain quality and accuracy in AI-generated content?
  • How can we protect sensitive business data from being absorbed into large AI models?
  • How do we keep costs under control?
  • How do we ensure Australian standards and regulations are built into AI tools?

These aren't just technical questions. They're business survival questions.

A chance to influence policy

Standards Australia has recently formed a working group focused on AI and small business. You can read more here:
SA/TR ISO/IEC 21221:2026 Preview

This is an opportunity for us—as a community—to help shape policies that support Australian small businesses in the AI age.

How you can get involved

We'd like to invite you to be part of this conversation. Specifically, we're asking:

  • Would you be interested in participating in a crowdfunding event for docDownload?
  • Would you like to join a working group focused on small business AI policy in Australia?
  • Would you like to help shape new products designed to streamline small business workflows?

Your input matters

We want to build tools that actually solve your problems. So tell us:

  • What's most important to you?
  • Australian-specific content and resources?
  • AI that keeps your business data private—not shared with external platforms?
  • Fully local, on-premise AI tools?
  • Help fixing branding and editing issues that eat into AI time savings?
  • Lower costs?
  • Help identifying which documents and processes you actually need?
  • Ability to share documents securely with partners or other small businesses?

Let's talk

If any of this resonates—or if you have ideas of your own—please:
